Dear Tale Tellers,
As I wrote in the introduction post, I would like to take our community to the next level. That means print (and e-books). Let’s bring our stories to the world outside of Substack and put them in bookstores, libraries, and homes, and let’s keep our community so we can grow together. I hope to bound our best stories into one beautiful collection:
I’m looking to include novels and novellas (anywhere from 20K words to 100K and beyond) in increments of no more than 8,000 words each in twice-monthly editions. All genres, all subjects, all different types of voices. I will be looking specifically for polished writing that speaks to some sort of meaningful theme promoting a philosophy of equity and empathy.
During the time of publication - between when the work is first accepted to a month after when the final increment is published - I will ask for print and e-book exclusivity, but any other online publication may occur simultaneously. After the release of the final increment of your story, you are free to do anything with it you like. I would love to primarily feature authors who are active members of this Tall Tales Fiction Critique Community; however, submissions will not be exclusively limited to such.
I am very excited to explore this medium of serial magazine publication. In addition to the tales themselves, I would like to include Behind the Pen author interviews, an occasional exclusive essay, and a fun exclusive collaboratively written work of which I will write the first chapter and then each edition will invite submissions for the chapter that will follow. I would love to include the work of illustrators as well, either in collaboration with some of the running serials or as a separate story told in graphics. Please note, I am not interested in featuring art or text generated by AI inside the publication.
When released, each edition will be around $5 to buy in print (hopefully slightly less), and free to get in e-book format. After a month of being out, editions will become “Archived” after which they will be $20 to buy in print, and $15 to buy in e-book format. Whatever profit is made from each edition will be distributed equally among the contributors of that edition. In addition, each contributor will have the opportunity to provide information that points readers to alternative ways to offer financial support to artists of their choosing.
All text and image copyright will remain with their respective artists.

There’s a lot here. Definitely interested in exploring further. Need to do so with “morning eyes” 😉❤️👻
what if someone wished to submit a story they previously posted here on substack - would you accept that, or would they need to take the substack posting down?
